For three years, Kohnstamm Communications worked in partnership with and then as the PR agency for Ellerbe Becket, beginning with its work at the U of M on the Carlson School of Management campus. Kohnstamm served as the PR agency for the business school from 1993 through 2003 and generated extensive national and trade media about the new Ellerbe Becket-designed business school building — from ground-breaking and design announcements through its grand opening. Extensive regional and national media coverage, generated and managed by Kohnstamm, was spread over more than two years. Features appeared in virtually every media outlet in Minnesota, including a pre-opening walking tour segment on MPR, a favorable architectural commentary in the Star Tribune, feature coverage in Architecture Minnesota, an extended building review by Larry Millett of the Pioneer Press and a lengthy “Dimension” special segment hosted by Don Shelby of WCCO-TV news.
Kohnstamm has built a legacy of serving design, architecture and engineering clients through public relations and marketing support. Campaigns have ranged from national PR for Yankelovich and Roeper studies on business design to architectural grand opening galas.
Kohnstamm stays abreast of design and architectural trends in graphic and product design, business communications and residential and commercial building trends. Residential design campaigns have included historic renovation, LEED certification and land use planning among others. Commercial architecture design campaigns have included higher education, historic renovation, industrial developments, art and architecture, scientific research, retail and entertainment mixes among other sub-specialties.
Kohnstamm’s five years of work for Potlatch Paper allowed extensive experience working with top print and graphic design trade media, generating commentaries and feature coverage. The agency launched and sustained PR for a new business design publication, @issue, in partnership with the Corporate Design Foundation. The agency has spearheaded rebranding PR campaigns for numerous consumer product companies, including Naked Juice and Fantastic Foods.
