Organic Baby Food Star HappyBaby Mounts PR to Launch Its Dr. Sears Book and Growth Spurt of New Products HAPPYBABY™ (www.happybabyfood.com), the leading brand of premium organic meals for babies and toddlers, named Kohnstamm Communications as its PR agency for product promotion and the launch of a new Happy Baby book co-authored with Dr. Sears, published by HarperCollins.
The company has become a phenomenal hit among young families and retailers like Target, by providing a decidedly “green” and innovative approach to organic baby food. As example, its HAPPYBELLIES™ is the only organic baby cereals with DHA and probiotics; its HAPPYMELTS™ is the first freeze-dried yogurt and fruit snacks with pre- and probiotics, and its HAPPYBITES™ is a handheld organic toddler/kids meals with hidden veggies. Kohnstamm has been hired to promote the “functional food” and “green lifestyle” aspects of HappyBaby’s entire product line, including a wave of new products in development.
The Kohnstamm agency is managing the PR launch and September book tour for HAPPYBABY: The Organic Guide to Baby’s First 24 Months, co-authored by the staff of Happy Baby together with legendary pediatrician and bestselling author Dr. Bob Sears. A major title for publisher HarperCollins, the book is the definitive guide for new and expectant parents, explaining why “going green” is universally the best way to protect baby from environmental toxins and to ensure his or her overall good health and development.
The brainchild behind Happy Baby’s successful partnerships and brand prowess, especially with “mommy bloggers” and “green lifestyle” parents, is Shazi Visram, the company’s founder and CEO. Visram sought the book’s publication as a first-of-its-kind green baby bible, and views her company as emblematic of a new generation’s approach towards parenting. In Sears, Visram found a powerful soulmate, ally and child advocate who has defined his career by counseling parents to simplify what they give their children. Sears most recently authored the much-discussed “The Vaccine Book.”
“Feeding our babies and toddlers food grown without GMOs, preservatives, chemical additives, high sugar and salt content is more important than ever in avoiding the allergies, early onset obesity and attention problems that are becoming increasingly prevalent,” said Dr. Sears of his involvement with HappyBaby.
Beyond nutrition, HappyBaby has grown to symbolize the greater social ethic, dialogue and commitment to community that comes with parenting that is a defining characteristic this new breed of families. As such, Visram.co-founder Jessica Rolph and the staff of HappyBaby do not shy away from making a commitment: For every package of HAPPYBABY®, HAPPYBELLIES®, HAPPYBABY PUFFS® , and HAPPYBITES® parents purchase, the company contributes a portion of its proceeds to Project Peanut Butter (www.projectpeanutbutter.org) to feed malnourished children in Malawi and Sierra Leone.
June 9, 2009 — The North American distributors of Europe’s top green beauty brand, Lavera Naturkosmetik of Germany, named Twin Cities-based Kohnstamm Communications as its U.S. public relations agency in order to gain significant market traction through media relations and online PR product exposure. The all-natural and organic personal care company (www.lavera.com) holds a 27% market share in Europe and is launching its first mainstream consumer retail initiative in the U.S. through Target stores and CVS this summer. Kohnstamm’s PR program will coincide with the client’s “Lavera is Truth” national advertising campaign that throws caution on the use of skincare products and cosmetics that use synthetic ingredients in favor of natural options. “Sixty percent of what goes on your skin is absorbed into your body,” according to the campaign. The Kohnstamm agency also announced the signing in recent months of Boston-based Kettle Cuisine and Santa Rosa, Calif.-based La Tortilla Factory, driving public relations to support national product sales. Kettle Cuisine (www.kettlecuisine.com) is the leading maker of gluten free, organic and natural frozen soups. La Tortilla Factory (www.latortillafactory) is the originator of the “healthy wrap” category known for its first-to-market line of high-ingredient and inventive flavored tortillas under the Smart & Delicious, Sonoma and traditional La Tortilla brands.
PR Week ranked Kohnstamm Communications 131st in its April 2009 annual PR Agency Rankings, up from 166 in 2008, based on 15 percent growth in gross revenues. Since 2008, the St. Paul agency has attracted new talent from GolinHarris, Edelman, Karwoski & Courage and Manning Selvage & Lee to drive its growing consumer PR client-load, especially in the organic and natural category. Founded by former Hill and Knowlton PR exec Joshua Kohnstamm, “The Holmes Report,” in its 2008 PR Agency Report Card, named the 18-year old firm a “Best Agency to Work For.” For more information, go to www.kohnstamm.com or write This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
